Today, I was walking to meet some of my sorority sisters at the new Student Union building, which is on the complete opposite side of campus from my dorm. On the way to the Student Union, I have to walk through a courtyard outside of our university center.
Let me tell you, it was the strangest experience of my life.
First, I was asked by an older gentleman if I would like a pocket-sized copy of the New Testament. I noticed there were quite a few middle-aged men standing around, handing out Bibles.
Next, the Yoga club was set up under a tree, selling what I believe were books and handing out fliers.
After this, there was a group standing around a table upon which was a trifold advertising a charity Drag Show.
Then, ZTA was set up advertising their service project, which I assume is the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation given the extreme amount of pink and the guy who was giving, as he said so loudly, “Free mammograms!!”
Next, there was an Igloo stand for some group or another, promoting STD awareness. They have a contest in which you guess the number of condoms in a bowl and if you get it right you win a free tee-shirt.
Some guy had set up his speakers and was blasting Drake so loudly I swear the ground was shaking.
Finally, as I made my way to the periphery of the courtyard, I was once again approached by a man with a free Bible.
So completely overwhelmed by everything that I had just seen, I simply said, “No, thank you, I’ve already read that.”
And that, boys and girls, is my University in a nutshell.
Until next time!
